The Basset Hound Club of Southern California, Inc. welcomes you to the wonderful world of basset hounds. As stated below our club was established to protect and promote this unique and wonderful breed of dogs. The membership of the BHCSC is very active in showing their dogs in AKC conformation events as well as other AKC sanctioned events. In addition we have a large number of pet owners who also enjoy having basset hounds as family members. We invite you to join us in our efforts and to become active in the club. One thing you'll find about basset hound club members is that they are as fun loving and friendly as the dogs. While some of us often compete against each other in the show ring we are still great friends.

June 25, 2025 - a Newly Discovered Disease in Basset Hounds

Basset Hound Glycogen Storage Disease (BHGSD)

BHGSD is inherited in an autosomal recessive manner, meaning a mutation in a specific gene is responsible, and affected dogs inherit two copies of the mutation. The BHCA Foundation is working with Purdue University. They offer a genetic test that can determine a dog's status.

The information below has been included here by the webmaster because he has received emails and calls from several people who claim to have been scammed by one of these fraudulent websites. At least four said they lost a substancial amount of money to one of these scammers. Another breeder recently reported that two people who contacted hin regarding his litter told him that they had lost substancial amounts of money to a particular "basset hound breeder" on the Internet. The following wording is from an actual FBI warning that our webmaster received in an email.

This is STILL HAPPENING!

2025 BHCSC Meetings:

BHCSC Membership Club Meeting ‭–‬ March 1st at 1:00 pm ‭–‬ Pizza lunch

at ‭Heritage Park, 4250 Chino Park, Chino  ‬

NOTE: There will be some basset puppies available from a BHCSC Member Breeder - Check the page - LINK ABOVE

While the FBI Warning doesn't specifically mention fraudulent websites they do exist.  I have found several on the Internet. They include both fake breeders and fake rescue organizations. Due to legal  issues I cannot name them here but I can warn you to be very careful getting a puppy from anyone, especially if they want money up front. I have recorded two personal podcasts about these websites. They are available on "WOEBGON the Basset Hound Podcast" on YouTube and anywhere you get your audio podcasts. The guidelines provided by the FBI are a good starting point. Some of these "fraudsters" are very good at getting money from people. If in doubt DON'T get involved with any breeder or rescue without verifying who they are and their actual location.

NOTE: Please look at the FBI warning and additional information BELOW. There are fraudulent "breeders" on the Internet. People are losing substancial amounts of money to these people. Please don't be one of them.

March 4, 2026 - The current BHCSC website will cease to exist.

The current state of this website is that it will remain on the Internet through the BHCSC 2026 Specialty Weekend. That's when my tenure as webmaster ends.

The club has voted to hire a website service which will create a new website for the club and maintain it. From what I've been told his new website will be more modern and mobile friendly. No timetable for this new website has been announced. You can check the recent Basset Tales for more information. I'm sure the club will make announcements as soon as the new website is ready.

It's been a pleasure to have had the opportunity to be the club's webmaster. I honestly don't even remember when I took over -- it's been that long. This website was a tremendous undertaking but it's time for me to move on. I no longer have the time to do the website justice. While I hate to see it go I'm happy that there will be a new one in it's place. For those who don't remember this is the third website I created for the club over the years due to many different reasons. I'm sure the new website will be informative on club events it just won't be nearly detailed which may be a good thing.
